Selection guide
Choose the right led controller configuration
Use these decisions to narrow the model range before controller, power, cabling, and mounting quantities are engineered.
Device role, input and output
Network controller, DMX decoder, offline player or address writer
Specify the complete signal chain. Match the source protocol to the device input, then match its DMX512, SPI or dimming output to the fixture. An address writer configures supported fixtures; it is not a substitute for a playback controller.
RGB / RGBW and fixture compatibility
Color channels, supported IC, channel order and addressing
Confirm the exact fixture or strip IC, RGB/RGBW mapping, pixel grouping and connector pinout against the controller manual and firmware. A matching connector or an RGB label does not establish electrical or protocol compatibility.
Ports, pixels, universes and refresh rate
Per-port limits, total device load and required frame rate
Separate network universes from physical outputs. Check pixels per port, channels per pixel, universe mapping, total controller capacity and refresh-rate limits for the selected output mode. A calculator estimate does not replace the model rating.
Online control or offline playback
Live software output, supported SD-card playback or master/slave
State whether the installation needs live control, standalone playback or synchronized units. Verify supported file format, programming software, trigger behavior and restart requirements for the exact model; do not assume every controller supports every mode.
Software, firmware and commissioning evidence
Source software/version, controller firmware and a sample patch
Request a model-specific compatibility statement and a sample configuration using the intended fixtures. sACN support must be confirmed for the receiving controller and firmware, even when the control software supports it. Confirm software licensing and commissioning scope separately in the quotation.

Questions to resolve before ordering
Will any Art-Net controller work with my LED strip?
No. Art-Net describes the network transport into a compatible receiving device. The controller output must also match the strip or fixture interface, IC, channel mapping and electrical requirements. Confirm the complete source-to-controller-to-fixture chain for the exact models and firmware.
Does MADRIX compatibility mean a controller supports sACN?
No. Software support for a protocol does not prove support in every connected device. sACN support must be confirmed in the receiving controller documentation for the exact hardware and firmware. If the selected controller uses Art-Net input, configure a compatible Art-Net output from the source software.
Is a controller port the same as one DMX universe?
Not necessarily. A universe is a logical group of DMX channels; a port is a physical output whose capacity depends on the device and output mode. Check universe mapping, per-port pixel limits, RGB/RGBW channel requirements, total device capacity and the required refresh rate before ordering.
Can the capacity calculator select the final controller quantity?
It provides a preliminary estimate using the limits you enter. It does not verify the selected hardware or firmware, signal distribution, refresh rate or site conditions. Confirm the proposed port allocation and device count against the exact controller manual and a representative sample configuration.
What information is needed for a controller quotation?
Provide the fixture or strip model and IC, RGB/RGBW channel layout, pixel count per run, port distribution, required frame rate, source software/version, input protocol, online or offline operation, cable distances, installation country and delivery requirements. Request the proposed controller model, firmware, wiring diagram and sample patch. Confirm any software license, programming, commissioning service, MOQ, lead time and warranty separately.
